Night #1

Our first night is almost over and Teag handled it amazingly well for what she went through yesterday. Her anesthesia finally fully wore off around 9:30pm and she was able to have a bit of morphine to help with the pain. She's having a hard time breathing in very deep with her sternal incision and 3 large chest tubes so she has to take fast short little breaths which really bothers her. She has also been extremely nauseous throughout the night and so thirsty. She slept in 15-20 minute stretches just trying to hang in there. I slept for an hour or so around 1am and have been sitting bedside holding her hand the rest of the night.

She was able to have a few sips  of water from the little mouth sponge, then a few ice chips which helped her feel better. Then this morning around 3am she had a bit of 7up which she was happy about. Unfortunately, at 6am she has to go NPO (no food or drink) until they find time to take her to the cath lab for the secondary heart surgery to fix her stent. She is 3rd case right now, so they have to get through 2 other kiddos before she'll go down and they told us early afternoon.  We haven't told her yet about this second surgery as she's been dealing with enough already through the night. I'm going to ask for some versed before we wheel her down so she's not as anxious... I still can't believe she's going back under for more work- but we're hopeful that this will be our only major bump in the road.

Watching her endure so much pain so bravely is heartbreaking and inspiring. She's able to tell us what hurts, how she's feeling and take slow breaths when the pain is bad. She's asked me to pray it's her several times throughout the night for different things and she's so comforted knowing God is taking perfect care of her. To hear her little voice say "Amen" each time we're done makes us all teary. We know God has a plan for her and is not surprised about these bumps we're experiencing! All of your prayers and messages are so helpful (and working!) We're confident Teag will start heading towards recovery after today's surgery. (Prayers still appreciated! :))

Hi Susie :) I am not sure we have actually ever met, but my daughter McCara is Teagan's Sunday School Teacher at C3 and my husband and I are Gavin's Sunday School Teachers. I just wanted you to know that we are all praying for sweet little Teagan! She is such a bright spot where ever she is. Please let her know that McCara is praying for her and she can't wait to see her at church again so she can give her a hug! As a fellow mom, I am praying for you, for God to strengthen you, give you the words to say to Teagan and the people you encounter at the hospital. I pray that God gives you the peace that passes all understanding.

Hudson, Audrey and I prayed several times last night...blanketing you all with prayers and strength, knowledge for the Dr.'s and for Teagan to have strength and get through this successfully! I can't imagine what you are going through as a mother. My heart breaks for you having to endure more. But we trust in God and he has got This! May others see Him and his Glory through all this!!
